Sky's the limit for Shepton Mallet apprentices

One of the UK's biggest entertainment companies is offering apprenticeships in Shepton Mallet.

Shepton is the technical hub for 1.2 million Sky Broadband subscribers, and 10 apprenticeships with the company are now on offer at its Charlton Industrial Estate base. Helene Williamson, a talent consultant with Sky, said the apprenticeship programme offers young people the opportunity to develop skills in technical customer service, communication and teamwork, leading to an ongoing job with the company.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to study towards a nationally recognised NVQ qualification.

This opportunity is available for an initial intake of 10 individuals. Applications are open from now until June 20, and successful applicants will be expected to commence work in September.  The apprenticeships are open to people aged over 16.

Ms Williamson said the scheme will bring benefits for both the apprentices and the company.

"Attracting, nurturing and retaining talented people is key to the ongoing success of our business," she said.

"A vital part of our approach is the ability to grow our own talent, and the success of our apprenticeship programme in Scotland has shown how effective this is.

"With the launch of the scheme in Shepton Mallet, we aim to continue to recruit and invest in those individuals who can continue to add to the success of our organisation." To apply for the scheme, or for more information, go online to www.sky.com/jobs .
