Sunday Times Enterprise Editor to open Business Festival

Rachel Bridge will be coming to Frome as part of a three-day business festival being organised in February 2012.

Rachel will be spending the day in Frome on the first day of the Discuss and Do festival, Thursday 23 February, where she will be co-hosting a Women in Business Lunch with fashion designer Pearl Lowe.

During the afternoon she will join local businessman and angel investor Gavin Eddy, from the Old Church School, to run a two hour hands-on session offering advice to budding entrepreneurs and more seasoned business people to help them test out their ideas and take the next step to success. In the evening she will then deliver her one-woman Edinburgh Festival show based on her most recent bestseller “How to Make a Million before Lunch” at the Merlin Theatre.

“We feel it’s a real coup for the town to secure a speaker of Rachel’s calibre and we’ll certainly be keeping her busy on the day!” explained Neil Howlett, President of Frome and District Chamber of Commerce which is helping to organise the festival alongside the Frome Creative Network with support from Somerset County Council, Mendip District Council and Frome Town Council.

“There will be plenty of opportunities for local business people – whether they’ve got an idea for a new business or are already established – to tap into Rachel’s expertise at a time that suits them.

“If you’re on Twitter we’re also offering people the chance to win a ticket to her afternoon and evening events, along with a signed copy of her book, if you can ‘tweet’ @discussanddo describing why your business idea should get support in just one tweet. But you need to be quick because Rachel will pick the winning tweet on Friday January 27.

“We’d also like to thank Burton Sweet Accountants for supporting the events on the opening day of the festival.”

Rachel Bridge is also the author of four self-help books on how to become a successful entrepreneur.  She says she's looking forward to visiting the town: “It’s great to see a small market town like Frome celebrating its exceptionally diverse creative industries. Small businesses are built on progressive, brave and enterprising ideas and run by hardworking individuals who deserve our support. I’m delighted to be bringing my workshop to the town’s creative business festival, Discuss and Do. It’s always refreshing to work with the small businesses which are at the heart of our regional economy.”

The Discuss and Do events are running from Thursday February 23 to Saturday 25 February and will also include talks from local fashion designer Pearl Lowe, angel investment expert Modwenna Rees-Mogg and The Numbers Coach Johnny Martin. Experts in their field will be giving a wide variety of talks across the three days, from how to start using social media and search engine optimisation for websites to how artists can get their work into galleries or secure public arts commissions. There will also be a special showcase for young bands to get constructive feedback on their acts before a music industry panel.

There are early bird discounts on ticket prices for all bookings made before the end of January and there is more information about what’s offer across the three days at www.discussanddo.co.uk

There are also three Brown Bag lunches planned by Frome Creative Network in January and February 2012 where people are invited to bring their packed lunch and hear interesting talks from creative industries. Find out when and where they are at www.discussanddo.co.uk or www.fromecreativenetwork.co.uk
