Why do you do what you do?

To capture the moods and beautiful scenic variations of the mid-Somerset landscape and share some of its one-off and unique moments with others.

How long have you lived in Mendip?

45 years

How does Mendip inspire your work?

The range of countryside from the Levels to the Mendip hills, together with Glastonbury’s Tor, is an enticing landscape. It is spiritual, sensual and peaceful; containing many surprises.

What are the advantages and drawbacks about living in this area?

Advantages:

  • Thoroughly rural England with very friendly people.
  • Has adequate shopping for country towns, plus Clarks Village, and is close enough to large centres, like Bristol, Bath, Taunton and Exeter.
  • Major roads such as the A303 and M5 pass very close to the area and Bristol Int. Airport is very close.
  • Only an hour from the uncluttered and interesting beaches on the Dorset coast.

Disadvantages:

  • None worth mentioning

What's your favourite part of Mendip and why?

Glastonbury and Street. Good feelings of a rich and varied community life.

What would you say to encourage people to visit here and work here?

It’s said that tourists go to magnificent Wells and pilgrims to atmospheric Glastonbury.  There’s something special about this place; once experienced, reluctantly abandoned ……… and frequently revisited.
