You cannot fail to be moved by the beauty of Mendip's landscape - the willows, winter mists over the Levels, sunrise over Glastonbury Tor, the big open skies, the starlings at Westhay...

Why do you do what you do?

I make films because I love listening to other people stories about their business success and recording them as video case studies.

I truly believe that storytelling is an agent of change and hearing others' stories that can inspire changes in ourselves. With my other hat on I am a sort of techno-social worker and run fun-filled workshops throughout the West Country helping businesses with their website design and online marketing.

How long have you lived in Mendip?

26 out of 51 years (I must be half a local now!)

How does Mendip inspire your work?

You cannot fail to be moved by the beauty of Mendip's landscape - the willows, winter mists over the Levels, sunrise over Glastonbury Tor, the big open skies, the starlings at Westhay...

Advantages

  • Very friendly people. Lots of lanes and quiet roads for cycling.
  • Easy access to the rest of planet earth (if you have to go) via Castle Cary station and the A303
  • Broadband is transforming the economic geography of Mendip.  I am currently managing a project from Glastonbury where the design company is in Exeter, the writing team are in London and Bridgwater, the photographers are in Cornwall and the client is in Bristol!
  • Loads of creative people make their home here - writers, artists, potters, photographers, film-makers, musicians, poets, inventors, designers, healers and entrepreneurs, so there is always someone to give you a healthy whack on the side of the head to get the creativity flowing again.
  • A wide variety of independently owned local shops which cater for most needs - Bristol is welcome to Cribb's Causeway
  • A growing community of local food and drink producers supplying some truly fabulous Mendip pubs, restaurants and cafes

Disadvantages

  • I'm really struggling to think of any...

What's your favourite part of Mendip and why?

Too many -

  • Walking through Ebbor Gorge in spring (well, at any time of the year).
  • An early evening swim at Greenbank Pool in Street
  • Cycling across the Levels to Annie's beautiful tearoom at Godney
  • The views from the magnificent West Mendip Way, looking over the vales of Avalon and Sedgemoor
  • Driving along that wonderful wobbly road between Ashcott and Westhay.
  • The peacefulness of Street Quaker Meeting House.

What would you say to encourage people to visit here and work here?

In Mendip you can truly have your cake and eat it.
