I make a living by selling advertising space and providing advertising / marketing expertise. This funds my passion and goals of trying to restore the community values of ‘the good old days’ by bringing the community together.

Why do you do what you do?

Firstly, I do it because I am my own boss.
Secondly, I get great job satisfaction.
Thirdly, I get to meet a lot of the great people both business and individual who go to make up my community.
I certainly do not do it for the money – having previously earned £55K per annum in my last job, I will be very luck to make £10K in my first year … it is a labour of love!
I take pride in the thought that I can help others succeed and hope to be able to provide employment for others in the future.

How long have you lived in Mendip?

Approximately 12 years

What are the advantages and drawbacks about living in this area?

The advantages are – A beautiful setting, which is close to the centre for business and close to the countryside for pleasure. The people are more friendly and receptive than those in larger cities like Bristol and Bath. The people are more proud of their surrounds than big city dwellers. Good business networking opportunities. The area is frequented by many tourists.

The disadvantage? – Perhaps the size of the area and number of businesses located here … maybe not enough, but plenty for me!

What's your favourite part of Mendip and why?

Wells – I live here, the city is small yet busy and there are acres of country walks to take my dog on, literally a couple of minutes from my home in the centre. The social scene is excellent, with plenty of pubs to choose from and live music.

What would you say to encourage people to visit here and work here?

Experience the relaxed atmosphere where we seem to have the almost continental Spanish attitude of ‘it can wait until tomorrow’, whilst usually it will happen today.
Having worked for so long in a large city like Bristol, it is a whole new way of life, one which is much less stressed.
Chances are if you are able to work here for a time, up until retirement, you will want to stay here for your retirement – not be looking to get away like most big city dwellers.
